Second philosophy and testimonial reliability: Philosophy of science for STEM students

In this paper, I describe some strategies for teaching an introductory philosophy of science course to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) students, with reference my own experience a in the Fall 2020. The most important strategy that advocate is what call “Second Philosophy” approach, according which instructors ought emphasize problems concern philosophers are not manufactured imposed by from outside, but rather ones arise internally, during practice itself. To justify appeal considerations both educational research epistemology testimony. addition, defend distinctive learning goals adopt when STEM include rectifying empirically well-documented shortcomings students’ conceptions “scientific method” “nature science.” Although primary focus will be on much propose can applied non-philosophy majors generally.
